ArtsmarkOur belief is that all pupils should have access to an excellent, well-rounded education – a good arts and cultural education is a key part of this. We are one of the first schools to sign up for the ‘new’ ArtsMark which recognises schools which are delivering a high quality arts and cultural education to all pupils.
We currently hold the Artsmark Silver Award. This national award recognises our commitment to the arts over many years. By arts, we include art and design, drama, dance and music. At Kingslea, we ensure that our learning journeys have the arts embedded in them. Throughout the year, we invite in professional artists to enhance our curriculum, and we also host a parent/pupil 'Big Draw'event, which is often attended by over 200 parents. All our Year 4 pupils learn a musical instrument, our specialist sport’s coach ensures that dance is integral to the PE curriculum, our drama club is linked to a local theatre group, and digital media and film are built into our IT curriculum. Productions each year include Christmas productions, a choral concert, Young Voices at the O2, the Horsham music festival, talent shows and an end of year productions to showcase pupils’ talents in the arts. There are opportunities for children to continue their enjoyment of arts in a number of arts based after school clubs. These clubs include four dance clubs, two art and design clubs, a choir and sewing. Platinum Quality Start AwardKingslea was awarded the platinum Quality Start Award for PE and Sport in KS1. This recognises the school’s desire to instil a love of being active from a young age through engaging PE lessons, afterschool and lunch time clubs, competitions and festivals entered. The opportunities on offer to the children were identified as being a real strength of the school.

Healthy SchoolsThe National Healthy Schools Programme promotes the link between good health, behaviour and achievement through four key areas: healthy eating; physical activity; personal, social and health education; and emotional health and well-being. At Kingslea we work hard to promote the good health and social well-being of both pupils and staff, and have enjoyed Healthy Schools status for several years.
Eco-Schools Silver AwardWe are the proud recipient of the Eco-Schools Silver Award. We are now working towards the Green Flag Award. The Eco Schools programme covers nine areas: school grounds, biodiversity, global citizenship, energy, water, waste, litter, transport and healthy living. We work hard on our outdoor learning environments to create colourful, exciting and interesting areas that provide habitats for wildlife and where we can grow our own fruit and vegetables. It's also lots of fun!
Sainsbury's School Games Gold AwardsKingslea was awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Award in recognition of our commitment to promoting competitive sport and active and healthy lifestyles for our pupils. It also recognises our commitment to running very popular and free after school sports clubs that are well attended by our pupils.
South & South East in BloomWe were awarded the prestigious silver gilt award in recognition of our work encouraging children’s understanding of their environment, sustainability, water conservation and growing plants, fruit and vegetables.
The judging took place in June, with the judge spending an hour at Kingslea being shown around by teachers and children. The children were able to show off their hard work including their vegetable beds, the recently refurbished ponds and animal habitats, and our wonderful grounds. |
