Dear Parents/Carers,
’m sure you have seen the poppy display on the bridge over Harwood Road. A number of years ago, as part of our whole school work on WW1, every child in the school painted a poppy. Over the last two years all Reception children have painted their own poppy to add to the wave which is now displayed on the bridge. If you haven't seen it please do have a look. I just wanted to take a moment to thank parents for their support over the first half of this term. Our aim has been to provide as ‘normal’ an education as possible for our children, taking into account both their physical and emotional well-being, while also trying to ensure that they still have a broad and balanced curriculum, including specialist teachers, trips and visitors. I believe the teachers and teaching assistants have done an excellent job ensuring that we maintain a high quality of education with the restrictions we have been presented with. Life in classrooms still contains a buzz of excitement, chatter of children, strong and positive relationships between adults and children, and so much fantastic learning going on. As I’ve already said, it has been a fantastic start to the term. It is lovely to have the children back. It is obvious that they want to be here with their teachers and with their friends, they are enjoying the routine and structure of school, and they are really engaging with their learning in such a positive way. Welcome back after the summer break, and a very special welcome to all our new families, whether you are starting in Reception or in other year groups. Every staff member has been able to return to work and we are all looking forward to having the children in and returning to a sense of normality. Please read more here Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the last newsletter of the academic year. I don’t need to reiterate what a year it has been but I would like to say a final thank you. For all of us it has had its challenges, but the way we have worked together to support our children has been beyond anything I could have envisaged. Thank you for working with us, trusting us and supporting us every step of the way. Please click to read more. Dear Parents/Carers
Once again thank you for your incredible efforts to support the school in trying to widen our reopening to children in Years 2 - 5. Yesterday, Heron Way and Kingslea received notification from Jeremy Quin that the DfE clarified their non-statutory guidance to him: they want schools to provide full time education for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 before any opportunity is given to schools to widen the offer further. On Tuesday, Gavin Williamson (the Education Secretary) announced that schools who have the capacity to bring back more children in smaller class sizes can do so before the summer holiday. Things did get a bit confusing on Wednesday evening when PM Johnson announced that there was no longer an intention to bring back primary pupils prior to the summer. However, we have confirmed arrangements with West Sussex and they are happy for us to have Year 2 to Year 5 back, with slightly different organisation for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 explained below, something that we are very much looking forward to. Find out more In the current climate, I thought I would write a shorter, more regular newsletter to keep you up-to-date. We are now into the second week of Reception , Year 1 and Year 6 returning to school and, so far, it couldn't have gone any better. The plans we had put in place are running smoothly, children have settled back into school life quickly and it’s lovely to see the learning, playing and socialising.

Welcome to our June letter which is just a short update, and a very special welcome to parents from other schools who are reading this. I know our previous newsletter was widely shared around Horsham. It’s lovely that there was such interest in what Kingslea were doing and I understand that it is only natural, in the current circumstances, to compare what different schools are doing. However, please remember each school is unique, with different staffing structures, buildings and capacity, but all are doing their best for their community. So here we are, May 2020 and what a few months it’s been. A short reflection and then I look to the future and our plans for after half-term (as they stand at this point in time). Click to find out more |
