Dear Parents/Carers, I don’t usually start a newsletter with academic achievement but we’ve recently completed our assessment week for this term as well as the national phonics assessments that we are required to do for Y1 (although for this year they were taken by the children when they were in Y2). What the results are showing is that the vast majority of children are working at the level we would have expected them to be working at, Covid interruptions or not.
Please click to read more Dear Parents/Carers, I’m sure you will have seen the poppy display on the bridge over Harwood Road. A number of years ago, as part of our whole school work on WW1, every child in the school painted a poppy. Over the last few years, Reception children have painted their own poppy to add to the wave, which is now displayed on the bridge. If you haven't seen it, please do have a look. I hope you found them useful and that you were able to get a good understanding of how your child is doing at school. We are aiming for the Spring 2022 parents’ evening to be in person, so you can see the children’s books and the school, but a decision will be made nearer the time. Dear Parents, As we move into the last four weeks of term, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who attended the Days of Art, supported the scootering days and gave us feedback about how much your child has enjoyed the Lego sessions, Lasertag and about their general excitement around all the other events coming up. We are very much looking forward to seeing you virtually at parents’ evenings and in-person sports days. Please click for more details Dear Parents, I have written previously that we have been very conscious that the children have missed out on numerous experiences over the last 18 months. ’Catch-up’ isn’t just about the academic, but is also about the wider curriculum. I have identified the most common key words that came up in the thoughts that you submitted.

As we progress through the term, we are carefully reviewing the Covid control measures we have in place and making decisions as to what we can relax and what needs to stay in place. We do this on a week by week basis. So far we have removed rows from classrooms; we initially did this with Y2/3/4 and, after a successful couple of weeks, we are now removing rows in Y5/6. Although the children and teachers have done well in rows, group tables are so much more conducive to discussion, group work and supporting one another.
Please click for more details Dear Parents/Carers, As I’ve previously said, it has been a fantastic start to the term. Thanks to your hard work, the children have returned socially, emotionally and academically in a good place. It is obvious that they want to be here, with their teachers and with their friends, they are enjoying the routine and structure of school, and they are really engaging with their learning in such a positive way.
